The Countdown is on to the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings
November 4, 2009 - Edmonton, Alberta --The Host Committee for the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, the Canadian Men's & Women's Curling Trials made several announcements today at a Media Conference held at Rexall Place. We're only 32 days away from an event that will decide the two teams who will be wearing the maple leaf in Vancouver this February.
- Up until now, only Full Event Packages and 7 different Mini Packs were on sale. Starting Saturday,
November 7th at 10:00 am MT, through Ticketmaster, curling fans will also be able to purchase
individual draw tickets.
- Ticket sales right now are very good with an attendance of 134,844. Our goal is 200,000 over the 18
draws and we are well on our way to that number. Currently, the City of Edmonton holds the
attendance record for the Tim Hortons Brier, the Ford World Men's Curling Championship, and we're
aiming to break Halifax's Curling Trials record of 159,235.
- Opening Day on December 6th will be Boston Pizza Family Day. For the 1:00 pm opening draw (which
includes the 11:00 am Opening Ceremony), a limited number of tickets are available for only $15.00, so
we can give kids a chance to experience championship curling.
- Opening Night at the Patch. What would a curling event be without the Keith's Patch? It'll be located
in the Edmonton Expo Centre at Northlands on Saturday, December 5th. All of the teams will make an
appearance for the official opening of the Patch. Brett Kissel, Wonderland, and Jo Hikk will kick
everything into gear starting at 8:00 pm.
- Following Opening Night, the Patch will be going non-stop with outstanding live entertainment.
The smaller, quieter "Oh Canada Lounge" will be going strong too with entertainment, up close and
personal sessions with your favourite curlers, and autograph sessions for the die-hard curling fans.
You'll find the schedule for all the entertainment in this package.
"We can't believe this event is only 32 days away," commented Host Committee Chair, Jackie-Rae Greening.
"Probably in our lifetime, we won't have the opportunity again to watch a Trials where the winners get to
represent Canada on their home turf at an Olympic Games, this is going to be so exciting".
