Updates
With the event still 9 months away, Edmonton is well on its way to its attendance goal of 200,000 curling fans. Our current attendance is 100,242.
"When you think that you are going to see the top 16 teams in the country and they have only one goal, to represent Canada in Vancouver, this is truly going to be the biggest event in curling.....ever", observed Jackie-Rae Greening, Chair of the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings.
It was also announced today that the volunteer quota of 900 has been filled for this prestigious event. The 2007 Ford World Men's Curling Championship volunteers were given first opportunity to volunteer of which over 800 returned. Only 100 needed to be recruited which took a mere 17 days!
As well, one more team has qualified for the Trials. Calgary's Shannon Kleibrink, bronze medalist from the 2006 Winter Olympics. She joins Jennifer Jones, Glenn Howard and Kevin Martin. After the Players' Championship, on May 1st, four other teams will be declared. The remaining eight to round out the field of 16 will come from the Road to the Roar Pre-Trials held in Prince George, November 10th -14th, 2009.
