SOREL-TRACY, January 19...It looked for a moment as if only the Ontario women (Rachel Homan of Ottawa) would remain undefeated through Draw 11 Tuesday afternoon, after dismantling Northwest Territories (Amanda Moizis of Hay River), 19-1, at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors.

For on the men's side, Manitoba (Alex Forrest of Winnipeg) was on the verge of defeat, needing to steal in the 10th end against Alberta (Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton) to also remain perfect. 

Well, lo and behold, the Deer Lodge Curling Club did, as the Alberta skip rubbed an opposition counter in the eight-foot and another Manitoba stone in the four-foot with his last rock and wound up rolling a little too far.

Thus, the 20-year-old appropriately-named Forrest, a carpenter by trade for Vantage Builders, was able to nail down another win, as Manitoba moved to 6-0, a game ahead of Ontario and Saskatchewan, both at 5-1.  .  Defending champion Prince Edward Island (Brett Gallant of Charlottetown) is at 5-2, as Alberta dropped to 4-3.

"We, for sure, did (dodge a bullet). It was super close there," said Forrest.  "I was pretty sure he had it right at the last second.  I think a combo of a little more weight than he wanted and maybe the line, but I'm not sure."

Alberta scored a deuce in the first end, then stole one in the second to open a 3-0 lead, but Manitoba fought back with three deuces to knot the affair at six, before a blanked ninth end.

"We kind of had a tough one on mine in the first end and gave them their open deuce.  Then, they kind of had us in the second end and we cut them down to one.  We just had to chip away from there."

In other games, Ontario (Jake Walker of Kitchener) moved into a tie for second with idle Saskatchewan (Braeden Moskowy of Regina), besting winless Northwest Territories (Colin Miller of Yellowknife), 7-1.  Yukon (Thomas Scoffin of Whitehorse) improved to 2-4 with a 7-4 takedown of British Columbia (Tyler Klymchuk of Langley), which fell to 4-3, while Newfoundland and Labrador (Kelly Schuh of St. John's) won its first game, 10-5 over Quebec (Kevin Rivest of Montreal).

On the women's side, Ontario now sits at 6-0, while idle Northern Ontario (Kendra Lilly of Sudbury) and Saskatchewan (Trish Paulsen of Saskatoon) are at 5-1.

British Columbia (Dailene Sivertson of Victoria) improved to 4-3 with a 10-1 pounding of Yukon (Sarah Koltun of Whitehorse), while Alberta (Nadine Chyz of Calgary) also joined the 4-3 club with a tight 8-6 win over Manitoba (Breanne Meakin of Winnipeg).   The other game saw Quebec (Camille-Marie Lapierre of Otterburn Park) defeat Newfoundland and Labrador (Jen Cunningham of St. John's), 9-5, as both are now at 2-4, along with Yukon.

Draw 12 goes tonight at 7:00 pm.

L'équipe du Manitoba a dû voler pour demeurer invaincue

SOREL-TRACY, le 19 janvier... Pour un instant, on croyait que seulement les femmes de l'Ontario (Rachel Homan d'Ottawa) resteraient invaincues après la ronde 11, mardi après-midi après sa victoire dévastatrice de 19-1 aux dépens des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (Amanda Moizis de Hay River) aux Juniors canadiens M&M Meat Shops.

Car les hommes, les Manitobains (Alex Forrest de Winnipeg) étaient sur le point de subir la défaite ayant besoin de voler le 10e bout contre l'Alberta (Brendan Bottcher d'Edmonton) pour eux aussi,demeurer invaincus. 

Eh bien! croyez-le ou non, le Deer Lodge Curling Club a réussi; le capitaine de l'Alberta a frôlé la pierre meneuse de l'adversaire dans le cercle de huit pieds ainsi qu'une autre pierre du Manitoba dans le cercle de quatre pieds avec sa dernière pierre et a roulé un peu trop loin.

Ainsi, le jeune homme de 20 ans, Forrest qui porte bien son nom, un menuisier de profession pour Vantage Builders, a pu s'approprier un autre gain et le Manitoba a avancé à 6-0, un match en avance sur l'Ontario et la Saskatchewan à 5-1. Le champion en titre de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard (Brett Gallant de Charlottetown) est à 5-2 et l'Alberta à 4-3.

"Nous avons évité un dur lancer. C'était très près," a dit Forrest.  "J'étais pas mal sûr qu'il l'avait à la dernière seconde. Je crois qu'un mélange d'un peu plus de force qu'il voulait et peut-être la trajectoire, mais je ne suis pas sûr."

L'Alberta a marqué deux points au 1er bout et puis en a volé un au 2e pour prendre une avance de 3-0, mais le Manitoba est revenu en marquant deux points à trois reprises pour boucler l'affaire à six points avant un bout blanc au 9e.

"Nous ne l'avons pas eu facile au 1er bout et nous leur avons laissé deux points.  Ils ont failli répéter au 2e, mais nous avons réussi à n'en donner seulement un.  De là, nous avons dû gratter."

Dans les autres matchs, l'Ontario (Jake Walker de Kitchener) a avancé à égalité au deuxième rang avec la Saskatchewan (Braeden Moskowy de Regina) en battant les Territoires du Nord-Ouest (Colin Miller de Yellowknife), 7-1.  Le Yukon (Thomas Scoffin de Whitehorse) a amélioré sa fiche à 2-4 en défaisant (7-4) la Colombie-Britannique (Tyler Klymchuk de Langley) qui est descendue à 4-3 tandis que Terre-Neuve et Labrador (Kelly Schuh de St. John's) a remporté sa première victoire, 10-5, aux dépens du Québec (Kevin Rivest de Montréal).

Chez les femmes, l'Ontario est maintenant à 6-0 tandis que le Nord de l'Ontario (Kendra Lilly de Sudbury) et la Saskatchewan (Trish Paulsen de Saskatoon) sont à 5-1.
