SOREL-TRACY, January 18...Ontario (Rachel Homan of Ottawa) moved to 4-0 at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, edging Manitoba (Breanne Meakin of Winnipeg), 6-4 in Monday morning's Draw 7.

In the battle between last year's finalists, Homan was able to claim victory in the 10th end when chipping out an open Manitoba second shot, leaving Ontario with a winning three-spot.  Manitoba had taken a 4-3 lead with a deuce in the ninth end, but couldn't hold it in the 10th.

Last year in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Homan lost the national final to Manitoba, 7-4, when Meakin was playing lead for Kaitlyn Lawes.  This year, Homan has one new member on her Ottawa Curling Club team, Laura Crocker at second, joining third Emma Miskew and lead Lynn Kreviazuk. 

Meakin, meanwhile, has taken over a new team, representing the St. Vital Curling Club, as skip.  The loss dropped Manitoba to 2-2.

Behind Ontario, at 3-1, are Northern Ontario (Kendra Lilly of Sudbury), Saskatchewan (Trish Paulsen of Saskatoon), both idle this morning, and British Columbia (Dailene Sivertson of Victoria), which defeated Quebec (Camille-Marie Lapierre of Otterburn Park), 9-7, clinched with a steal in the 10th.  

Other scores saw Yukon (Sarah Koltun) whip Northwest Territories (Amanda Moizis of Hay River), 14-2 while Newfoundland and Labrador (Jen Cunningham of St. John's) routed Alberta (Nadine Chyz of Calgary), 8-2.

On the men's side, in a confrontation between two undefeated teams, Manitoba (Alex Forrest of Winnipeg) went to an extra end before edging Ontario (Jake Walker of Kitchener), 5-4.

Ontario had a chance to win it with a deuce in the 10th but Walker's last rock hit and rolled too far for second shot, thereby taking only a single.  In the 11th, with a Manitoba counter buried and biting the button, Walker wrecked on a guard with his final rock and Forrest did not have to throw his last stone.

The victory moved Manitoba into a tie for top spot with idle Saskatchewan (Braeden Moskowy of Regina), both at 4-0.  Ontario dropped to 3-1, joined by New Brunswick (Josh Barry of Rothesay), which had the morning bye, and Alberta (Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton), which rallied with a deuce in the 10th end to defeat winless Newfoundland and Labrador (Kelly Schuh of St. John's), 6-5.

In other games, Yukon (Thomas Scoffin of Whitehorse) won its first game by clipping arch-rival Northwest Territories (Colin Miller of Yellowknife), 7-6, taking two in the 10th end for bragging rights, while British Columbia (Tyler Klymchuk of Langley) won a wild one over Quebec (Kevin Rivest of Montreal), 9-8.

The round robin continues with draws at 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm, at both Colisée Cardin and Club de curling Aurèle-Racine.

Les Ontariennes toujours invaincues, seuls le Manitoba et la Saskatchewan avec une fiche parfaite

SOREL-TRACY, le 18 janvier ... L'Ontario (Rachel Homan d'Ottawa) présente une fiche de 4-0 aux Juniors canadiens M&M Meat Shops en défaisant le Manitoba (Breanne Meakin de Winnipeg), 6-4 dans l'un des matchs de lundi matin.

Dans la lutte entre les finalistes de l'an dernier, Homan a pu crier victoire au 10e bout quand elle a sorti une pierre du Manitoba laissant ainsi l'Ontario avec trois pierres meneuses.  Le Manitoba avait pris une avance de 4-3 en marquant deux points au 9e bout, mais n'a pu en profiter au 10e.

L'année dernière à Salmon Arm, Colombie-Britannique, Homan a perdu la finale nationale aux mains du Manitoba, 7-4 lorsque Meakin jouait 1re pour Kaitlyn Lawes.  Cette année, Homan a une nouvelle membre dans son équipe d'Ottawa Curling Club, Laura Crocker (2e) qui a rejoint Emma Miskew (3e) et Lynn Kreviazuk (1re). 

Meakin, entre-temps, a recruté une nouvelle équipe représentant le St. Vital Curling Club comme capitaine.  La défaite a baissé le Manitoba à 2-2.

Derrière Ontario, à 3-1, il y a le Nord de l'Ontario (Kendra Lilly de Sudbury), la Saskatchewan (Trish Paulsen de Saskatoon) et la Colombie-Britannique (Dailene Sivertson de Victoria) qui a battu le Québec (Camille-Marie Lapierre d'Otterburn Park), 9-7 en volant au 10e bout.  

Dans les autres matchs, le Yukon (Sarah Koltun) a écrasé les Territoires du Nord-Ouest (Amanda Moizis de Hay River), 14-2 tandis que Terre-Neuve et Labrador (Jen Cunningham de St. John's) a malmené l'Alberta (Nadine Chyz de Calgary), 8-2.

Chez les hommes, dans une confrontation entre deux équipes invaincues, le Manitoba (Alex Forrest de Winnipeg) a eu besoin d'une manche supplémentaire pour vaincre l'Ontario (Jake Walker de Kitchener), 5-4.

L'Ontario avait une chance de gagner avec deux points au 10e bout, mais la dernière pierre de Walker a frappé et a roulé trop loin pour compter et ainsi prendre seulement un point.  Au 11e, avec la pierre meneuse du Manitoba cachée et mordant le bouton, Walker a accroché une garde avec sa dernière pierre et Forrest n'a pas eu besoin de lancer la sienne.

La victoire a permis au Manitoba de se faufiler au sommet avec la Saskatchewan (Braeden Moskowy de Regina) avec une fiche de 4-0.  L'Ontario a baissé à 3-1 avec le Nouveau-Brunswick (Josh Barry de Rothesay) qui ne jouait ce matin et l'Alberta (Brendan Bottcher d'Edmonton) qui marqué deux points au 10e pour battre Terre-Neuve et Labrador toujours à la recherche d'une victoire (Kelly Schuh  St. John's), 6-5.

Dans les autres matchs, le Yukon (Thomas Scoffin de Whitehorse) a remporté son premier match en défaisant son rival des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (Colin Miller de Yellowknife), 7-6 en marquant deux points au 10e et gagner le privilège de se vanter tandis que la Colombie-Britannique (Tyler Klymchuk de Langley) a remporté une drôle de partie contre le Québec (Kevin Rivest de Montréal), 9-8.

Les matchs préliminaires se poursuivent cet après-midi avec des programmes à 14h30 et 19h00 au Colisée Cardin et au Club de curling Aurèle-Racine.
