All-Stars and Award winners announced at Brier

2010 TIM HORTONS BRIER ALL-STAR TEAMS

HALIFAX, March 14, 2010...Members of the Canadian Curling Reporters (CCR) selected the first and second all-star teams for the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier.
The results were announced at the Brier Closing Lunch by CCR Second Vice-President Bob Weeks of the Globe&Mail/Ontario Curling Report, while Jim Campbell, Canadian Curling Association (CCA) Board Liaison to the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier, made the presentations.

ROSS HARSTONE AWARD
The Ross Harstone Trophy is presented each year to the player chosen by his peers as the curler in the Tim Hortons Brier who best represents Ross G.L. Harstone's high ideals of good sportsmanship, observance of the rules, exemplary conduct and curling ability.
Graham Prouse, Chair of the Board of Governors of the CCA, presented the Ross Harstone Award to Nova Scotia skip Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc.
SCOTTY HARPER AWARD – Media Award ($500)
For the best curling story of 2009, as selected by the School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University in Ottawa, the Award is in memory of the late Scotty Harper of the Winnipeg Free Press, whose curling reports enlivened that journal for many years.
The award had not been presented for a number of years but with the help of the CCA, the award was re-introduced in 2005 and won by Paul Wiecek of the Winnipeg Free Press. In 2006, the winner was Allen Cameron of the Calgary Herald. In 2007 and 2008, SWEEP Magazine's Jim Henderson won the award, while Guy Scholz of SWEEP Magazine, was presented with the Award last year.
This year's winner is Bob Weeks of the Globe&Mail for his story entitled, "Gentle Giant plans to rock Paralympics." The presentation was made by Graham Prouse, Chair of the Board of Governors of the CCA.
PAUL McLEAN AWARD (named in honour of the highly-respected TSN Producer of curling, football, world juniors hockey, etc., who died of cancer, at the age of 39, in December of 2005)
The Award was presented for the first time in 2007 by the CCR and TSN to a media person 'behind the scenes' who has made a significant contribution to the sport of curling. The inaugural recipient was Richard Wells, TSN Director (Hockey, Baseball and Curling). The 2008 winner was Denis Lavoie, Associate Director for CBC-TV Sports. Last year's recipient was Jeff Timson, Coordinator, Media, Canadian Curling Association.
This year's winner is Ms. Robin Wilson, Kruger Event and Media Coordinator for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Presenting and accepting on behalf of Robin Wilson was TSN's Vic Rauter.
CCA SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD
The CCA Special Recognition Award was presented to TSN commentator Ray Turnbull, who has been with the network since its first year of curling television coverage in 1985 and will retire at the end of this curling season. The award was presented by Graham Prouse, Chair, Board of Governors of the Canadian Curling Association. Turnbull is already a member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in the Curler/Builder category, having been inducted in 1993.
