On behalf of the Host Committee, Iqaluit Curling Club and the City of Iqaluit, we are looking forward to hosting curlers and their followers in Iqaluit for this event. Thank you for being as excited about visiting us as we are to host you!
We are planning to introduce you to the wonderful Inuit culture. There will be tasting of traditional foods, a fur fashion show at the gala supper, opportunities to visit the museum, view and purchase locally made artwork, and much more.

We are proud to introduce you to First Air, The Airline of the North, as our presenting sponsor. To learn more about the great service First Air offers in Nunavut please visit their web site www.firstair.ca.
Travelling with First Air you can look forward to a hot meal on your flight north. If you have special dietary needs for the flight up please advise your curling association so they can let First Air know. Suggest bringing your camera in your carry-on. If skies are clear the scenery is spectacular!
Hotel-wise we have various options here in Iqaluit. All are within walking distance of the curling venue (5-10 minutes walk away). Our entire downtown core is only 5-7 minutes form point A to point B! If the weather gets inclement, taxis are a flat rate of $6/person regardless of where you go!

Other hotels in Iqaluit
As you might imagine accommodation is pricey in the north. All the hotels have internet. Cell phones will only work if you are on a Bell plan, so please check with your service provider.
We have grocery stores but you may experience sticker shock if you plan to shop as you would down south. Small soft sided coolers will fit easily in the overhead compartment on First Air's 737 jets. You can bring cheese, fresh fruit, snack foods, etc in it. The keep things cool we suggest one of the frozen blocks of chopped spinach. New security regulations do not allow ice packs.
If you are a Legion or Elks member, both groups have licensed establishments here. The Legion offers great lunch meals during the week, with a prime rib buffet for Friday lunch, steak and rib night Friday 5-9pm, and a lunch buffet on Saturday.
Curlers will have access to the Frobisher Bay Racquet Club, across from the host venue for curling. It has a gym, sauna, hot-tub, lounge area which is licensed and serves meals.
Weather conditions
Temperature wise, expect daytime highs in the -8 to -15C range, night-time of course will be cooler. Wind can be an issue so bring a hat, suitable jacket and warm mitts! Perhaps a neck-warmer or scarf if you are prone to chills. In November we typically do not receive a lot of snow, just light flurries with limited accumulations. Insulated hiking boots are the favoured walking attire! Insulated snow pants are not required till January.
First Air allows you to check two pieces of luggage per person up to 70lbs each piece before they charge for excess. Excess is $50 plus gst for each piece.
Please contact one of the committee members if you have any questions.
Yours in curling,
Karen Costello
