September 11th, 2007 -- The 2008 Ford World Women’s Host Committee today announced that the response to the call for Volunteers has been so successful that they no longer are accepting volunteer applications.
"We are still six months from the event and the response has been absolutely amazing," said Rob Pringle, Chair of the 2008 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship. "Even though the original number required has increased from 400 to 500, we have easily filled all our requirements and have a waiting list of 100, should more be required," continued Pringle. "The community has really rallied behind the event and once again has demonstrated the great volunteer spirit that exists in our region."
The committee launched their event website in early March opening up the opportunity for those interested in volunteering to do so online and since then they have had a steady stream of application, most locally, but some from as far away as the Maritimes.
"Curling has an amazing following in Canada not only in fans but those that travel from event to event to volunteer," explained Toby Oswald-Felker, Event Coordinator. "I've talked to people in Ontario, all over Alberta and Manitoba and of course in all parts of British Columbia about Volunteer Opportunities and I know although most of our volunteers are local there will be those traveling from afar to join our team."
Although Volunteer positions are filled, there is still lots of opportunity to be part of the action by attending the event. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.ca and entitle the holder to experience the curling, Opening and Closing Ceremonies and all the fun of Keith’s Extra End Patch.
