VERNON, B.C. -- China's Bingyu Wang is one more victory away from winning the 2008 Ford World Womens Curling Championship.

China advanced to Sunday's world women's final with a 7-5 victory over Canada's Jennifer Jones here Friday evening in the Page Playoff 1 vs 2 game. The loss relegated Jones to today's semi-final, where she will take on Japan's Moe Meguro.

Although they'd already beaten Canada during the round-robin, Wang seemed genuinely flabbergasted to have beaten Canada again, in the playoffs, before a packed house of boisterous Canada fans.

"I can't believe it's true," said Wang. "I'm so surprised. I don't know how to say I'm so happy."

Not surprisingly, it was a decidedly more dour mood among the members of Team Canada, who'd talked all week of the 1 vs 2 game as their goal only to waste the opportunity by limping out of the gate and spotting China a 4-0 lead.

"I can't explain it," Canada second Jill Officer said of her team's slow start. "We're going to have to discuss it."

Canada won't get much of a chance to do any talking. They're due back out on the ice to face Japan in the semi-final at 11:30 a.m. local time on Saturday. The game will be broadcast live on CBC.

The winner will advance to the final to face China, while the loser will face Switzerland's Mirjam Ott in Saturday night's bronze medal game. That game will also be carried live by CBC, beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

After holding China to a single with the hammer in the first end, the wheels came off for Canada in the second. Facing two China stones biting the button when she went to throw the last rock of the end, Jones played a runback to cut the Chinese steal down to one.

One end later, Jones was drawing against two China counters with the last rock of the end when her rock failed to curl and China stole two more.

Canada bounced back with a deuce in the sixth end and was threatening to steal three more in the ninth end when Wang played a very difficult tapback to cut the damage down to a steal of one.

China simply ran Canada out of rocks in the tenth end to seal the victory.
