Regina, Saskatchewan – No other Canadian city has hosted the two crown jewels in Canadian curling in the space of only three years. Following on the heels of the very successful 2006 Tim Hortons Brier, Regina will host Scotties Tournament of Hearts from February 16 – 24, 2008.
Today, it was announced that full event packages will go on sale Monday February 5th. There are three different packages available; Bronze - $250, Silver - $300 and Gold - $350. Tickets are available by phone at 306-543-7800 or toll free 1-800-970-7328, online at ticketmaster.ca or in person at the Brandt Centre Box Office.
The Host Committee which is expected to exceed 700 volunteers will be co-chaired by Cathy Trowell and Ron Pugsley. They will be joined on the executive by: Bernadette McIntyre, Executive Vice Chair; Teresa Drew, Vice Chair Facilities; Nancy Inglis, Vice Chair Hosting; Darrell Baker, Vice Chair Business and Marketing; Garth Tomlinson, Vice Chair Heart Stop Lounge; and Brian McCusker, Vice Chair Special Events and Volunteers.
This will be the third time that Regina has hosted the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. It was home to the very first event sponsored by Scott Paper (now Kruger Products) in 1982 and again in 1998 when Sandra Schmirler’s Team Canada returned triumphantly from Nagano, Japan with Canada’s first gold medals in curling. Regina still holds the all time attendance record for the event with 154,688 enthusiastic fans.
The theme for the 2008 Scotties Tournament of Hearts builds on the proven success of the Brier Parti Gras theme: Hearti Gras! For one week in February 2008, Regina will be rocking and masks will be the headgear of choice.
