REGINA -- The second half of the round-robin might not look much like the first half if Draw 9 here at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Tuesday morning was any indication.

The mighty stumbled, the stumbling found their games and when the dust settled at the end of the draw, this whole affair took on a slightly different complexion.

The biggest development came on Sheet C where previously undefeated Shannon Kleibrink of Alberta was beaten soundly, 8-4, by Quebec’s Marie-France Larouche.

The loss drops Alberta’s record to 5-1, while Quebec is now just a game behind Kleibrink at 4-2.

Elsewhere, Kelly Scott’s floundering Team Canada squad found new life Tuesday morning, smacking red-hot Newfoundland and Labrador by a score of 8-4.

The win keeps Canada’s playoffs hopes alive at 2-4, while Newfoundland’s Heather Strong drops back to the pack at 4-2.

In other games, the result was once again the same for Kerry Galusha’s Northwest Territories/Yukon -- they lost -- but the northerners will be taking great comfort in their effort against Saskatchewan’s Michelle Englot.

The notherners actually led by scores of 2-0 and 3-1 and forced Englot to throw her last rock in a game that Saskatchewan will breathing a sigh of relief after having just squeaked by 6-5. Saskatchewan improves to 4-2, the Territories falls to 0-6.

And finally, in the only other game Tuesday morning, Ontario's Sherry Middaugh barely hung on, squeaking out a 7-6 victory over BC's Allison MacInnes.

The win improves Ontario to 5-1 and vaults them into a share of first place with Alberta. BC falls to 2-4.

The Scotties resumes Tuesday afternoon when Saskatchewan plays Nova Scotia, Quebec plays Manitoba, Team Canada plays New Brunswick and Ontario plays PEI.
