CALGARY, November 15…Ontario will face Alberta in the final of the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship Friday at the Calgary Curling Club.
In the Thursday evening semi-final, Ontario, skipped by three-time Canadian Seniors champion Bob Turcotte of Toronto, had no trouble disposing of Nova Scotia, 11-5.
Ontario, the second place finisher after the round robin with an 8-3 mark, opened with a deuce in the first end, stole four in the fourth for a 7-1 lead, then counted another four in the seventh end to put the game away.
Nova Scotia, skipped by Peter Burgess of Truro, had advanced to the semi-final by defeating Quebec, 8-5 in a tiebreaker for third Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Alberta, skipped by Dean Ross of Calgary, finished in first place with a 10-1 record to advance directly to the final. Ross will be seeking a leading ninth Mixed title for Alberta since the championship began in 1964 in Toronto.
The teams met in the second draw of the round robin last Saturday, with Alberta prevailing 8-3.
