CALGARY, November 15….Nova Scotia has advanced to the semi-final of the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, after defeating Quebec, 8-5 in a Thursday afternoon tiebreaker.
Skipped by Truro’s Peter Burgess, Nova Scotia, after giving up a steal of one in the first end, responded with a deuce in the second, another deuce in the fourth, then a three-spot in the seventh end to virtually put the game away, taking a commanding 7-3 lead.
Quebec, skipped by Simon Dupuis of Thurso, came back with a pair in the eighth end to close the gap, but another single by the ‘Bluenosers’ in the ninth end proved enough, as Quebec ran out of rocks in the 10th.
Both teams had finished the round robin with 7-4 marks, thus the tiebreaker to determine the third place finisher.
Nova Scotia will now play Ontario in the 6:00 pm MT/8:00 pm ET semi-final, with the winner advancing to Friday’s final at 1:00 pm MT/3:00 pm ET to meet first place Alberta (10-1), skipped by Dean Ross of Calgary.
Ontario, skipped by three-time Canadian Seniors champion Bob Turcotte, who is representing the Scarboro Golf & Country Club in Toronto, finished second after the round robin with an 8-3 mark.
The teams met in the first draw of the round robin last Saturday, with Ontario emerging victorious, 10-4.
