Three-way tie for lead in men's at M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors

SAULT STE. MARIE, February 5…After seven draws of the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan are now tied for first place in the men’s event with 4-1 records.
 
Tuesday morning, Alberta (Aaron Sluchinski of Drayton Valley) scored a 7-5 win over Newfoundland and Labrador (Colin Thomas of St. John’s), Ontario (Travis Fanset of St. Thomas) edged Northwest Territories (Colin Miller of Yellowknife), 8-7 and Saskatchewan (Brennen Jones of Regina) was a 9-2 winner over Yukon (Thomas Scoffin of Whitehorse).

In the other game, New Brunswick (Jon Rennie of Rothesay) improved its record to 2-3 by whipping Manitoba (Kyle Peters of Winnipeg), 9-2, which dropped to 3-2 with the loss.

On the women’s side, undefeated Northern Ontario (Ashley Miharija of Thunder Bay) enjoyed a morning bye to remain at 4-0.   Right behind the leader, with 4-1 marks, are Alberta and Manitoba.  Alberta (Maria Bushell of Calgary) defeated Newfoundland and Labrador (Julie Devereaux of St. John’s), 9-7 while Manitoba (Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg) kept pace by nipping New Brunswick (Mary Jane McGuire of Fredericton), 6-5.

In other Draw 7 action, Saskatchewan (Stephanie McVicar of Saskatoon) improved to 3-2 with a hard-fought 7-4 win over winless Yukon (Sarah Koltun of Whitehorse), while Ontario (Danielle Inglis of Burlington) took out winless Northwest Territories (Valisa Aho of Yellowknife), 11-1, to up its record to 3-2 as well.

The round robin continues at both Soo Curlers Association and Tarentorus Sports Club with draws at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm ET today.
