Coldwater’s Glenn Howard joined idle Kevin Koe, Cheryl Bernard and Shannon Kleibrink at 3-0 after beating Edmonton’s Randy Ferbey, 7-5 Thursday afternoon.

Howard, the reigning Canadian and world champion, sits atop Section B, while Brad Gushue of St. John’s is next in line at 2-1.  Ferbey, who has won the Strauss Canada Cup three times, dropped to 1-2 and is now joined by the Reid Carruthers team of Beausejour, Manitoba, but skipped this week by Alberta’s Charley Thomas, a two-time Canadian and world junior champion, who upset two-time Cup winner Kevin Martin, 6-5 in an extra end.   Winnipeg’s Kerry Burtnyk trails at 0-3.

In Section A, Edmonton’s Koe is followed by Winnipeg’s Jeff Stoughton at 2-1, while Martin, Pat Simmons and Mike McEwen are knotted with 1-2 records.  In the other men’s game, Winnipeg’s McEwen edged Simmons, 8-7 to break into the win column for the first time.
