(Winnipeg, MB – November 2, 2007) – Want to take in some of the world’s best curling but don’t have the time to utilize a full event pass to the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier to be held March 8-16, 2008 at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre?
The Brier organizing committee has the answer. Today they announced three new mini-packs for fans to choose from that provide flexibility in days, times and draws for all curling fans.
“This is the first Brier to be held at the new MTS Centre and we want to get everyone involved in the excitement of this world class curling event,” said Barry Greenberg, President of the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier. “Our new ticket packages are designed to meet individual time preferences and price ranges. They also offer a terrific opportunity for those fans that might want to experience the event, but can’t find the time for more than two or three days.”
The first package called “The Carryover” runs March 8-10 and is offered at the price of $125. It gives the curling fan the excitement of all five opening weekend draws, the Opening Ceremonies, and the Ford Hot Shots skills competition. In addition, The Carryover package anticipates the enthusiasm of the opening weekend will “carryover” to Monday, providing the fan with all three Monday draws, in addition to the five draws offered during opening weekend.
The second package - “The Early Riser” - will appeal to those fans that work nights, have time off during the day, or just like to get home early. The Early Riser runs mid-week, March 10-12, and provides the morning and afternoon draws on these three days, while freeing up the evenings to do other things, all at the cost of only $95.
The final mini-pack offer is “The Late Show.” This ticket package will appeal to those who like the nightlife. It provides admission to each evening draw from March 10-12, giving people the opportunity to unwind after their day jobs, enjoy the curling and stay downtown after the curling draw to take in the famous Brier Patch. The Late Show package provides all three evening draws at the cost of $50.
All three mini-packs also include complimentary same day admission to the Keith’s Brier Patch where there will be plenty of off-ice entertainment to enjoy. The 2008 Tim Hortons Brier draw schedule is also now available at www.seasonofchampions.ca, giving fans the chance to line up the games and teams they want to see, providing further detail to help ticket purchasers choose the mini-pack that work best for them.
Interest in the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier has been steady since the local “Legends of Rock” theme was unveiled and details of full event, opening and closing weekend ticket packages were released last February. While avid curling fans have secured their seats with full-event passes, representatives of the organizing committee say that because of the excellent site lines at the MTS Centre, there are still lots of great seats to choose from for those purchasing the mini packs.
“Winnipeg competed against several other cities to host the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier and we have been very open about our goal of meeting or exceeding overall attendance goals set by other major cities such as Calgary and Edmonton, “ said Barry Greenberg. “We know Winnipeg is the heartland of curling. The 2008 Tim Hortons Brier will provide everyone with the opportunity to be part of the party and show that Winnipeg is a city that can support a world class sporting event such as The Brier.”
Further details about the three new mini-packs can be found online at www.seasonofchampions.ca. Tickets can be purchased in person at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling the Ticketmaster Sports Line at (204)669-3333.
Curling fans should remember to “Quote Your Code.” Thanks to a partnership between the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier and the Manitoba Curling Association, a special code has been established for each of Manitoba’s 130 curling clubs. When fans purchase their ticket packages and quote the code of the Manitoba curling club of their choice, a percentage of their purchase will be designated as a credit towards that curling club. About the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2008 Tim Hortons Brier will be held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, March 8 – 16, 2008. The Brier competition involves 12 teams representing Canada’s provinces and territories.
The Legends of Rock theme is built on three specific cornerstones: hosting Canada’s best curlers in Winnipeg in 2008; saluting Manitoba’s rich history in curling which accounts for more Brier champions that any other province; and paying homage to Winnipeg’s legacy as the birthplace of some of Canada’s best rock and roll.
The 2008 Tim Hortons Brier will provide an economic impact in excess of $20 million to Manitoba. With approximately 200,000 attendees over 9 days and daily national TV coverage, the Tim Hortons Brier is the largest attended annual sporting event in Canada. Over 1200 volunteers are already hard at work to make “Legends of Rock” Winnipeg’s best curling event yet.
